Out with the New In with the Old!

No,  I don't have that backwards.  Just think... If today's furniture was made with the same craftsmanship and materials, there would be no use for an Antique or Vintage Store.  Today's furniture was made for a "throw-a-way" society, where things are so inexpensive that it is O.K. to throw something out if it gets a scratch.  That means that our landfills are getting fuller and fuller.  Now that society is getting away from that mindset and are opting for going green, what better place to go green than an Antique Mall?  At the Antique Gallery we have loads of antique furniture, lighting, dishes, etc.  Just take a look at the A.G.C.A.P. Dealer of the Month's booth below:
This is a beautiful carved bench.  This would look great in an entryway.  It even has storage under the seat.  Stop by her booths located at Aisle 2 North Booth D15 & D 16,  Aisle 3 North Booth E 15, and Aisle 4 North Booth H 8, H 9, G 12 & G 13.  She has a very generous selection of fine furnishings along with Crystal.

Don't like really "OLD" antiques?  Well, we have plenty of Mid-Century Modern pieces to choose from as well.  What is Mid-Century Modern?

Mid-Century modern is an architectural, interior and product design form that generally describes mid-20th century developments in modern design, architecture, and urban development from roughly 1933 to 1965. The term, employed as a style descriptor as early as the mid-1950s, was reaffirmed in 1983 by Cara Greenberg in the title of her book,Mid-Century Modern: Furniture of the 1950s(Random House), celebrating the style which is now recognized by scholars and museums worldwide as a significant design movement.
Clean lines and a minimalist design aesthetic define Mid-Century Modern style. Reminiscent of a 1960s ranch style home, the design approach revolves around sleek and accessible living. Research Mid-Century design. From the architecture to the interior design principles, familiarize yourself with the movement. Mid century spans three decades, but the core elements remain the same. Understand the overall look that defines the style.
Study the physical layout of your living room and decide how to best develop Mid-Century Modern style. Notice the unique angles and lines as you envision your new space. Measure wall, floor and window areas.
Start with an empty canvas. Your design aspirations rely on bare white walls and unoccupied floor space. Think austere yet stylish as you develop the design scheme. If walls aren't white, make sure they're a monochromatic shade that is in keeping with the time period.
Achieve Mid-Century Modern style. Now that you understand the look and design principles of the style, start shopping for furniture, knick knacks and lighting that reflect the distinguished look. Select items made out of the materials of the time: melamine, colorful plastics, formica and vinyl. Think durable functionality with a space-age flair.
Shop at antique stores or modern home decor stores for the best selection of products. You may buy original pieces or reproductions, but don't overdo it. Keep it simple, and choose just a couple of items to decorate your living room. The style should be clean and sparse with eye-catching elements.
Light up your life. Light fixtures and lamps are defining elements of Mid-Century style. Treat lighting as artwork to illuminate your room. Don't go overboard, but choose unusual pieces that stand out against a barren backdrop.

Are You Ready For The Holidays??????

Are you ready for the holidays?  I am about half-way through my shopping, and I got loads of unique gifts from The Antique Gallery.  A few years ago, I started my three grandchildren collections.  Something they could continue and that did not require batteries!!!  For my granddaughter, I started an antique perfume bottle collection.  They look beautiful on her vanity, and believe it or not even at age 17 she is already trying to get me to tell her about the one I got her this year.  For my oldest grandson I started a fishing lure collection.  Since he enjoys fishing, I thought that would be appropriate.  My youngest grandson is a history buff.  His collection consists of civil war items that include old medals, old coins, etc.  My grandchildren grill my husband and I for any information about the items that they can think of.  We encourage them to search these items on the Internet to learn more.

For my two daughters, I have purchased some cute costume jewelry as well as some new handbags.  They will be sure to love them!
The beautiful Cobalt cut to clear Bohemian Large Glass Vase is this weeks BLOG SPECIAL.  This item can be found in booth G-12 on aisle 4 North.  This item's regular retail is $398.00.  From Thursday December 15,2011 until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 21, 2011 you can purchase this beautiful vase for 25% off.  That brings the price to $298.50!!!  The inventory # on this item is 4657 and there is ONLY ONE of these vases available for this price.  Just be sure to tell the cashier the code word ELEGANT.  This BLOG SPECIAL is being offered by the A.G.C.A.P.
